Why Metal Roofs Stain
Painted and coated metal roofs collect airborne pollution, pollen, tree
residue, algae, mildew-like growth, and debris. Shaded panels and
slow-drying sections often show dark streaks first.
A chalky or faded appearance can also come from oxidation or coating
deterioration. That distinction matters because ordinary cleaning can
remove surface buildup, but it cannot reverse a finish that has
chemically or physically changed.
- Dark streaks below trees
- Debris in valleys and drainage paths
- Uneven panels near transitions
- Buildup around penetrations and rooftop details
Peak reviews a test area when the visible condition could be dirt,
oxidation, coating chalk, or a combination of several issues.
